<- Go back to Fiction WorksA young man watched the moment a star fell from the sky. When it hit the ground, he realized that it was actually a meteor and that it was as large as a house. In response, he ran around in circles with shock.
"I did it. I finally opened up a portal into the realm of the gods."
The young man disappeared into the portal.
The portal stayed open, a loud whirring noise emanating from it.
A tall man appeared out of the surface of the mountains. "Ah," he said, "after sleeping for a thousand years, the portal to my domain has finally woken me— Hey! Wait a minute! It's still 70,000 years too early! Dang it!"
He stomped to the portal and pointed at it. "Close off! Close off right now!"
The portal began opening wider.
The man growled.
The portal immediately became half its size and began to grow smaller gradually.
The man pointed and waved his pointing fingers around wildly. Moreover, he was screaming, but the loud wind muffled his voice.
After the portal closed, the man returned to where he slept. "Damn. Finally."
Meanwhile, past the portal, the young man appreciated the design of the interior of the house where he was: white walls that aided meditation, clean, carpeted floors that gave weary feet respite, and large windows that allowed natural light to flood the space. Because opening the portal exhausted him, he lay down on the floor.
A few minutes later, he was asleep.
